Fall is amazing. It’s just insanely beautiful. The colors of the leaves, the crisp air, everything.
Here’s a breakdown of fall makeup trends. Keep in mind that skin is very sheer this season, since we’re all trying to hold onto our summer color. Rely on tinted moisturizers instead of a foundation, with just a dusting of loose powder.
Single Wash Shadow
My favorite trend this fall is the single wash lid. Translation: one shadow color. That’s it. Just apply one shadow color on top lid, then fade up. Finish by rimming the bottom lash line.
Orchid, mauve, plum and eggplant are delivering purple power in a fall makeup movement. This is a very flattering color for every color and skin tone. I love Smashbox Eye Shadow Trio for Eyes in Panorama.
Wine & Dine the Lips
Lip service this fall is bold and beautiful. Colors are ruby red with a burgundy tint are great for fair skin, while reds with a bit of brown look chic with olive complexions. Wine is dramatic on dark skin. Don’t forget a lip primer if you’re going to use a strong color to stop bleeding and feathering. Two gorgeous shades: CoverGirl Queen Collection in Shiny Wine and Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Natural Wine
Yes, smoky eyes are in (aren’t they always?), but instead shake things up with a simple cat eye with a precise black liquid liner. A quick tip—look in the mirror, lift your chin (makes lids flat) and then apply liner. The easiest liner I’ve ever used–anything by Laura Mercier. She also has an amazing burgundy/purple limited edition liquid liner.
Rub a cool pink cream on the apples of your cheeks for a fresh finish. Consider this training for Spring 2010 when things get even brighter with juicy lips and dare-to-wear cheek colors. The colors available for The Multiple by NARS Cosmetics are perfect, and they glide on really smoothly.
Matte About Nails
We’re still sticking with the darker nails (I’m continuing my love affair with greige). But trade in a glossy finish for flat color this fall. Faves: Avon Matte nail enamel in Grey Cement or matte up your own fave with Essie’s Matte About You Matte Finisher.
