Looking good at the beach is impossible. You’re sweaty. You’re caked with sand. You may or may not have a wedgie. It just seems like a challenging proposition.
Until international make-up artist Jemma Kidd gave me these easy tips for beach-bound beauty. She can’t help with the wedgie though.
For the Body: To begin, mix a little body shimmer into your creamy sunscreen to prevent skin from looking dull. (Try: Nars Body Glow)
For the Eyes: Line the upper lash line with dark brown pencil for definition. Apply a shimmery peach eye shadow from the upper lash line to the socket crease. Add a little shimmer under the lower lash line using a gold eyeliner pencil. Apply dark brown waterproof mascara. (Try: Jemma Kidd Make Up School Define Stayput Eyeliner in Mahogany and Vintage Gold; and Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Caramel)
For the Lips: Use a hydrating lip balm with a nude shimmering finish and high SPF to protect lips and keep them feeling moist despite sea spray and sun. Nude/brown tones are more flattering with a tan than red. (Try: Fresh’s new Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15)
For the Face: Apply sunscreen and blend a sheer tinted moisturizer on top. Bring a natural flush to your cheeks by smoothing on pink cheek stain, which is water-resistant and will last longer than cream blush. (Try: Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 – Oil Free, with 10 shades to choose from, you could pick one at the beginning of the summer and another at the end as your sunkissed glow darkens.)
