Natural makeup trends are welcome in my world—a universe that consists of quite a few playgroups and park tweet ups. I mean, I already get shit from some people for wearing heels to tumble class…What? I’m not the one frigging tumbling!…So makeup up isn’t something I really plan on heavily painting on during my daily routine.
When I found out that this spring boasted understated glamor, I squealed like a little girl. Think relaxed foundations (tinted moisturizers, happy day!), pops of lip color for fun, and subtle (yet feminine and flirty) sophistication. Hey spring…I’ll tumble for ya.
Natural beauties shine this spring. The easy trick is to prime and prep. Apply a light colored blush before your loose powder, so it looks like you have a glow from within. (Unless you are the one tumbling, then you might just need to sit down and take a break. You’re getting red.) Choose a lightweight finishing powder (my favorite is Becca’s Fine Loose Finishing Powder) and apply it with dusting brush.
Pucker up, buttercup. Coral. Fuchsia. Orange. As we transition seasons, bold and hot puckers remain the main attraction. During the day, dab color on the center of your lips and use your ring finger to tap the color to the sides. Check out Nars Outsider or L’Oreal Paris Infallible Le Rouge Lipcoulour in Charismatic Coral (seen above). But trendsetters beware: bold colors highlight lips’ little imperfections. Achieve pouty perfection with a primer, like LipFusion 2X Micro-Collagen Lip Pencil to keep your lipcolor to yourself.
Spring brings a romantic touch of lighter shadows instead of the heavy dramas of yester-season’s smoky eye. Pick from today’s floral shades (peony, violet, coral…a good one is Smashbox’s Megapixel Eyeshadow Trio in raspberry/iced pink/deep purple) and apply all over the lid in a wash for seamless beauty. For evening, smudge color beneath the lower lashes as well. A few coats of mascara, clear gloss on the lips, and you’re good to go.
