Happy Halloween! – Scariest Movies of All Time

October 31st, 2010

When I was pregnant, my friend Suzanne told me to stop watching horror movies or my baby would turn out to be a nervous Nellie. As it turns out, she’s not nervous, nor did I name her Nellie. Besides, there’s no way I could ever stop watching horror movies. In fact, it’s one of the things that brought my husband and me together. When all else fails and nothing’s on TV (which is most of the time, now that Lost and 24 are gone…R.I.P. my two lovely Jacks), we pop in a horror movie. Supernatural ones, if you please…not the gore fest or slashers.

For Halloween, I always love to be on the lookout for countdowns of the scariest movies. There’s always one or two that I missed on my own list (like Dario Argento’s Suspiria…I had never heard of it until Entertainment Weekly introduced us to it in one of its countdowns a few years ago).

Here’s a great all-inclusive list from Boston.com of the top 50 Scary Movies of all time. It’s a blend of faves from the ’70s and ’80s, as well as a few new ones I love like, such as Session 9 (#32), which takes place in the former state hospital in Danvers, Mass. I’m adding The Innocents (#49) to our must-see list this year. So grab an orange popcorn ball, some witches brew, and watch them…if you dare…
