Wakeup and Makeup – Your P.M. Skin Routine

August 5th, 2010

So off to NYC we go for BlogHer 2010, a conference that will leave me full of info and new friends. Which is good because I’m sure I’ll have bags under my eyes in which I can carry all that knowledge and all those business cards.

This is why I’ve decided to do the ultimate in multi-tasking. I’m going to sleep.

Celebrity Makeup Artist Kimara Ahnert offers these tips for making the most out of your PM routine, so that your AM one isn’t too time-consuming or painful.

  • Always remove eye makeup before bed as any makeup left on overnight can make the eyes puffy.
  • Apply a mask with calendula or azulene to any area of the face that is red or needs calming. Leave it on overnight. (Try Mario Badescu Azulene Calming Mask.) You can also use a mask with camphor for any area of the face that has breakouts. (Try Ahnert’s Camphor Pore Minimizing Masque.)
  • Beautiful, long lashes can be achieved by using Revitalash or Latesse on lashes every night.
  • Exfoliate lips at night by applying Vaseline and brushing them with a toothbrush to remove dead skin. Reapply Vaseline to lips post treatment to seal in moisture.

Ahnert also suggests that one of the best ways to secure a good beauty regimen is by using nighttime treatments that will take care of the dirty work while your rest. So here are a few I’ve chosen for the ultimate in beauty sleep.

Noah’s Naturals is an all natural brand, made with a blend of pomegranate, acai berry and Vitamins A, C and E. This Night Cream will help reverse fine lines and other signs of aging while you sleep. Just dab on a few spots before bed and ‘rest’ assured that your skin will develop a youthful glow!

Rodial Skincare Glamtox Night: An overnight “facelift,” there are so many younger skin treats in here, it’s not even worth getting into.

Vichy Night Care: An entire line of products that wake up your skin while you get some ZZZzzzzs.

Alba Botanica Rainforest Nighttime Oil: It has Tiger Nut for resilience and Buriti, the richest known source of beta-carotene (higher than carrot oil).

Avalon Organic Botanicals Essential Lift Restructuring Night Cream: Over 70 all-natural ocean minerals to draw moisture to the surface while you slumber.

What’s your nighttime routine? Let me know!
