Fab Fridays – Summer Makeup Tips

July 16th, 2010

One of the things I love about summer…no makeup. OK, well, there’s some. Just not a lot. After all, we want our dewy fresh skin to shine through. We want our sun-kissed bronze to shine through. Oh, who are we kidding. We want our jam-packed calendar to shine through. We’re too busy to even consider makeup a possibility.

It takes just a second to consider the trifecta of summer time beauty: Lips, Nails and Cheeks. That’s all you need. Here’s how to quickly add a special summer beauty boost.

Sun-kissed Cheeks

You’re already flushed. How could you not be. It’s 89 degrees. But for even in precious A/C, you still want a healthy glow. Dust powder onto apples of your cheeks with a puff instead of a brush for a natural touch. Using a cream foundation? Use a cream blush. No blotches. Fair skin beauties choose sheer baby pinks (try Bare Escentuals’ Rose Radiance, seen above), whereas dark skin turns to watermelon or fuchsia shades (Amazing Cosmetics in Watermelon Fizz). Olive skin tones get rid of sallowness with pinky peach (try Nars in Amour).

Rainbow Nails

Straight off the runways, powder blues, corals and lilacs are on the tip of fashion. Just stay away from neons…that’s so 2009 (I would have preferred it even stay in 1983, in my humble opinion). Check out Grape Escape from Barielle (seen above), Sula’s Kelly or Sephora by OPI’s Caliente Coral).

High-shine Gloss

Gloss creates a sexy lip in seconds, without the heavy lipstick that rules fall and winter. Its transparency is perfect for the flirty lightness of summertime. To help sheer tint from getting lost, dab concealer onto your lips before applying to create a clean canvas.

Take temps into consideration with where you store your makeup too. Although a pretty face will make men melt, that’s the last thing you want you makeup to do. So store it in a cotton bag in a cool, dark area. Lipsticks in the fridge gives a too-cool pout while saving lipsticks from becoming goo. Not to mention it can extend their shelf life overall.
