You want to look attractive. You want to hold onto some semblance of hey-look-at-me-I’m-pretty. You want to be the next Heidi Klum – pregnant woman extraordinaire. If even for a moment, you want to don a pair of sexy stilettos, a baby-bump friendly fashion and hit the town (even if you’re home by 8pm because you’re exhausted and nauseous). It’s our right as women to be gorgeous no matter the trimester, right?

Ugh. According to new research, in your quest for trendy fashion, you could be causing permanent damage to your body. Even summertime flip flops are on the no-go list if you’ve got baby on board.

Pregnant women are risking their feet in the name of fashion by wearing the wrong types of shoes, experts warn. A poll of 1,000 pregnant women for the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists found many regularly wore ballet pumps, flip flops, high heels and Ugg boots. The survey also suggests half feel under pressure to keep up with the latest celebrity trends. Yet seven out of 10 women admitted to suffering from foot problems including swollen ankles (37%), swollen feet (45%) and arch and heel pain (16%) while pregnant. Read more…
