Putting Bumpy Butt Behind You

May 6th, 2010

It’s the bane of every butt’s existence. Ninety percent of all women have it (yes, even the really skinny ones). Cottage cheese. Orange peel. You know what I’m talking about.

Cellulite. As we peel away the calendar pages, so go layers of sweaters and jeans…our safety nets against exposed skin. Which means, it’s time to tackle the bumpy stuff now…so you’ll barely see it in the barest of swimsuits this summer.

Take a tip from the lovelies in Brazil. These women have the best bods, cellulite-free and toned, and their secret is in a quick subtle rub. When lying on the beach, they rub sand on their bodies to break up cellulite. Normal, no. Effective, si.

Without traipsing to the beach every morning, make your own quite cellulite-buster at home. Choose a salt- or sugar-based body scrub and apply it before your shower to the backs of your legs and bum. Rub in a circular motion for three minutes. This amps up the circulation in trouble spots, while breaking up cellulite and getting your skin ready to absorb any cellulite creams you want to apply after your shower.

Anti-cellulite creams, while not miracles for long-term cellulite-free fannies, do hydrate and/or swell the skin so you see a smoothing temporarily. Choose ingredients like caffeine, ginseng and soy. When applying your favorite cream, smooth it on from below the knee to your top of your bottom, massaging in an upward stroking motion. One minute well spent. Let dry and then apply your regular moisturizer.

You’ll probably be able to feel a difference in your skin texture in a few days, but decreases in actual cellulite usually takes up to eight weeks. So start rubbing it in now for a smooth backside this summer!

A few other tips for reducing that orange peel appearance:

  • Eat well and avoid salty foods.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Exercise.
  • Get massages regularly (twist my arm on this one).

A few of my favorite creams:
Nivea Body Good Bye Cellulite Dual Pack Program: nutritional supplements for beauty from the inside out, a cream for topical treatment

PRIORI – CoffeeBerry Slimming Body Complex: nothing like a cup of coffeeberry to smooth out the bumps in the morning

Dermelect Lipo-Conquer Body Toning Cream: a hip and thigh treatment with Vitamins A and E, caffeine and Ginkgo Biloba

ReVive Cellulite Erasure: formulated with the power of performing molecule, Cyclic AMP…I have NO idea what that is, but it translates to body redefined; even has a nice orange peel smell to remind you what’s at stake

bliss fatgirlsleep Overnight Cellulite Diminishing Cream: gives “booty” sleep a new meaning

Vichy Lipo metric Cellulite Reducing Treatment: activates the synthesis of collagen fibers for smooth bum
