As my husband would say, Spring has sprung. Actually he says that over and over every sunny April day, but it’s usually with a Scooby Doo-esque dufus-y lilt. He drives me nuts, but in a good way…moving on…
This spring brings some of the most easily wearable pieces. Colors are mostly neutral (khakis, beige, flesh), until you get a massive pop of print, floral or geometric pattern, or a splash of eye-catching red, spicy yellow or saffron.
Here’s a quick study on the trends you’ll see in the next months.
Jackets: Contrast the sharp-shouldered look of a tuxedo with a softer pant. Keep collarless jackets simple with a white shirt and bold extras. Pair Boyfriend with sexy stilettos for a feminine touch.
Pants: Harem pants should be left to harems, MC Hammer and anyone without her own hips. Instead try a tailored loose look in a drawstring pant (but wear with platforms and opt for a slim cut, so you don’t look just out of bed).
Dresses: Shirtdresses abound, belted to create a waist; while draping is extra glamorous for evening. The cutaway shoulder dress is a must this season.
Shorts: Shorts are the new miniskirts. Don’t panic. I said, shorts. Not short shorts. Try tailored shorts under a fitted jacket for an A-line silhouette.
Skirts: Wear a graphic pencil with a white top and bold shoes. Keep full floral A-lines light with platform or wedge shoes and a sweet lace trim top.
Of course, there are always a few trends where the designers thought a little outside the closet. Here are a few easy peasy tips on takings these pieces (read: jumpsuits, metallic and prints) from runway to real life.
