Our dog Dazey has been whining more than usual. There’s nothing specifically wrong with her. I think she’s just stir-crazy. This is a dog who usually sits outside all day long, basking in the sun.
So she’s doing the dog dance. If you have a pup, you’re familiar with this one. Stand inside the door, be let out, stand outside the door, be let in. Repeat. All day. I think every time she wants to go out, she’s hoping that the 20 degree weather will be gone. Well, honey, it won’t.
For a quick splash of springtime, just turn to your senses.
You can’t control blooms outside, but inside, consider yourself Mama Nature. Putting cut fresh flowers all over the house is an instant lift out of the winter doldrums. Toss even more blossoms around your living room with a great patterned pillow (I love Moyna) or throw blanket. In the bedroom, create an actual bed of roses with a set of soft floral sheets.
Japanese rose-scented body butter by Korres, Diptyque gardenia candles, Wallflowers lilac blossom air fresheners at Bath & Body Works. There are plenty of ways to surround yourself in bouquet of basic springtime blooms. Just careful to mix scents.
Since they’re out of their element, introduce florals into your wardrobe with care (see my Wearing Animal Prints–the same rules apply). If you choose a floral dress, a solid shade cardigan, opaque neutral tights and tall boots keep it centered in the winter season. And don’t forget accessories. My favorites: Prismera Design rose hair clips and Stella & Dot rings.
Not every weather pattern needs to be something dark by Vivaldi. Here’s a little something to get your summertime groove back in 3 minutes and 29 seconds…just enough time for me to let Dazey out…again.
